ACCESS STATEMENT FOR DEER VIEW BED AND BREAKFAST

Deer View is located on the edge
of the Cambridgeshire village of Burwell and is the perfect place to stay
whether you are visiting for business or leisure.

We have two spacious rooms on the
first floor, one is a double room with en-suite facilities and the other is a
family room, also with en-suite facilities 
which has one 5ft bed and one 4ft 6in bed.

PRE-ARRIVAL

We are located in the village of
Burwell. For full details and maps of how to reach us please see the location
section of our website. Alternatively, you can plan your journey by car or
public transport using www.transportdirect.info.
Simply enter your post code and ours, which is CB25 0BB to get directions.

Stansted airport is 30 minutes’
drive away. Taxis are available locally. The Stansted shuttle bus (operated by
National Express) can be joined at Cambridge. The Stansted Shuttle Train also
stops at Cambridge Railway station.

Burwell has several shops
including a newsagent, co-operative store, Budgens supermarket attached to the
Jet petrol station, Post Office, Lloyds chemist, Barclays bank and a craft
shop. The nearest to Deer View is the newsagent and co-op which are a 10 minute
walk away. Cash machines are located outside the Co-op and also outside the
Burwell branch of Barclays Bank which together with the Post Office are
centrally located in the village.

Burwell also has a dental
practice and a doctor’s surgery, both of which accept emergency patients.

We regret we are unable to
accommodate guest pets but do of course welcome assistance dogs. (There is a
small Shiatsu-type dog (No moulting!!) and a cat in residence at Deer View,
both are very well behaved and love visitors!!).

Deer View is situated on the edge
of the village down a quiet road and backs onto the Fen, the nearest bus stops
are Toyse Lane which doesn’t have a shelter, and North Street which does. The
nearest train stations are Newmarket (approx. 5 miles away), Ely approx. 10
miles away and Cambridge approx. 15 miles away. There are taxis ranks at all
these stations and bus terminals at Ely and Cambridge.

The historic city of Cambridge is
just a 20 minute drive away and has several park and ride sites. The nearest to
us is Newmarket Road.

 

CAR PARKING AND ARRIVAL

There are two guest car parking
spaces on the forecourt (indicated by signage). The forecourt is block paved
and is well lit at night via an outside light and a street lamp. The front door
is accessed via the forecourt which is of a level construction.

There is one step into the house
which is 30cm (12”) high; the front door is 76cm (30”) wide.

Assistance can be given with
luggage.

 

WELCOME AREA

Guests are welcomed in the
hallway which is level throughout. Guests are asked to register in the
adjoining Dining Room which is also ground level and accessed through a doorway
which is 76cm (30”) wide.

The floor on the ground floor
throughout is wood with one rug fixed with non-slip material to prevent
movement. The area is evenly and well lit with overhead and wall lights.

After signing the visitor’s book,
guests are shown the Dining Room and then taken to their bedroom.

 

BEDROOMS

The guest bedrooms are accessed
by means of a staircase which contains 14 steps of 20cm (8”) in height. The
staircase has a handrail on one side and a fixed wall on the other. The width of the staircase is 75 cms (30”).

The bedrooms are normally made up
with duvets but sheets and blankets can be provided if required. The beds are
made up with four pillows on each; if extra pillows are required please let us
know as these can be provided. The beds are 55 cms high (22”).

Guest bedroom doors are 76cm
(30”) wide and entrance doors to en-suites are 68cm (27”) wide. In each bedroom
there is seating, bedside tables, lamps,
chest of drawers, writing table and chair. Flat screen Freeview television /
DVD with subtitles are in each room, as are facilities for hanging clothes.

Bedrooms 1 has one king-size bed
(which is 55cm – 22” high) with private en-suite. Bedroom 2 has one king size
bed and one 4ft 6in bed also with its own private en-suite.

Smoke alarms are fitted in each
of the guest bedrooms (and also throughout the whole house.). A Velux window in
each room has a black-out blind, and each room has a window overlooking the
rear of the property at which there is a venetian blind.

There are two radiators in each
room which are independently thermostatically controller for your comfort.

 

All electrical sockets in both
guest rooms are 50cm (20”) above floor level for easy access.

 

 

EN SUITE BATHROOMS

Both rooms have en-suite
bathrooms with a door opening size of 68cm (27”) and have a toilet which is
40cm (16”) high.

The 90cm quadrant shower has a
27cm (10.5”) step and a non-slip surface although a shower mat is available is
required. Access to the shower is by sliding door. Both showers are
electrically operated by pull code and easy push button on/off.

Both sinks are counter sunk into
a vanity unit and are 85cm (33.5”) high, they have easy lever type taps.

Well lit overhead lights, wall
mirror which wall mounted at 160cm high, electric shaver point is 1450cm (55”)
from the floor. The floors are tiled.

 

PUBLIC AREAS, HALL, STAIRS AND LANDING

All the public areas are well lit
using a combination of overhead and wall lights. The hall has oak flooring with
one rug having a non-slip backing; there are no steps to the dining room which
also has an oak wood floor.

There is a continuing flight of
14 carpeted stairs to the bedrooms which are also carpeted, the stairs bring
you to a small landing area with a further one step up to your bedroom and this
is also carpeted.

The house is fully centrally
heated. The entire property is fitted with audible smoke alarms and a carbon
monoxide detector is fitted.

The property is non-smoking
throughout.

 

DINING ROOM

The Dining Room is situated on
the ground floor, accessed from the entrance hallway; the door opening is 76cm
(30”).

The floor is oak wooden flooring
and there is a large bow window providing plenty of natural light, supplemented
by overhead lights.

Seating for eight guests is at
solid wood tables and co-ordinating chairs.

Breakfast is served but you can
help yourself to fruit juices, cereal and fruit.

 

GARDEN

There is a decked area which can
be accessed through the main entrance doorway, taking the pathway to the side
of the bungalow and passing through a wrought-iron gate which is 100cm wide. A
step of 15 cm (6”) up onto the decking where tables and chairs can be made
available and this area is a designated smoking area as there is no smoking
inside the property. Ashtrays supplied on request.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The nearest A&E unit is
West Suffolk Hospital at Bury St Edmunds or Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge.
Both are fairly equi-distance from Burwell. A minor injury unit is operated at
the Princess of Wales Hospital in Ely.

The nearest Doctor’s surgery is
approximately a mile away from Deer View in Newmarket Road, Burwell (Opposite
the Post Office).

There is an information folder in
each room giving a few details of the place around Burwell to visit, and we
have a supply of Tourist information leaflets for places of interest, however
Steve and Jennie are ‘born and bred’ local people so probably a good source of
information – just ask!
